Bill & Lynne Compton

Bill & Lynne Compton are the new owners of the Cherry Valley Bookstore. Lynne holds a Master of Art History degree from Tulane University in New Orleans; and Bill has a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the University of New Orleans. They purchased the bookstore in June 2019 and renamed it the Cherry Valley Bookstore. Prior to moving to Upstate New York, they lived in Bristol, RI where Bill was the Town Planner in nearby Tiverton. Bill’s 25-year career in urban planning has taken them from New Orleans, where they met, to Coastal Florida and Coastal Georgia, Boston, and the Berkshires.

They are enjoying the challenge of being small business owners - especially meeting people and having interesting conversations. The work is not without its challenges. Since acquiring the bookstore, they’ve had a new roof put on the building, painted the facade, and continue to trace and fix leaks. Books are being cleaned and organized.

Downstairs the Local History, U.S. States, American History & Politics, Children’s Books, Natural History, Science, Art & architecture, Gardening, Crafts, Poetry & Drama,Literature, Foreign Language, Music, Entertainment, and Vintage Travel have been sorted and organized. Upstairs features General Fiction, Science Fiction, Mysteries & Thrillers, Westerns, Animal Husbandry & Pets, and Vintage Periodicals. The store also offers and extensive selection from the Everyman’s Library and Modern Library Series. We love it when someone comes in and asks for a certain book and we can put a copy in their hands.
